  1. In outsourcing services, should I choose a start up company or stick w/ a tried & tested firm?

  2. It’s nice to give a new company a chance however i would recommend a company where you can get references from other clients. Otherwise ensure your contract has very clear KPIs and a good out clause for service failure.

  3. It’s your call. I’d create a spreadsheet with each potential supplier in a column and factors to consider in rows.

Be sure to establish clear performance standards before signing.

  5. Since you have to make a choice, you should have some criteria to evaluate an outsourcing services supplier. Simply choosing between a start-up and a tried & tested firm might not be sufficient. You should find the answers to the following questions as well:

    1) Which kind of company can give you better cost advantages?

    2) Which type of company will meet your quality and schedule requirements better?

    3) What kind is your company? Will the fit be better with a start up or a tried and tested firm?

    4) Does the company have a good track record OR does it have the people with good delivery track record?

    5) Where in the world is your potential outsourcing services supplier located? How are the legal system and the labor market in that part of the world?

    6) Will you be able to successfully get to know your supplier, co-ordinate with them comfortably, track, and control them as needed?
