What are the labor laws in California in comparison to those in other states in regard to salaries?
If you are working for a company and performing duties exactly the same as workers for the same company in another state, is it legal to be paid different salaries? This question is not based on hierarchy developed in a company, just starting salaries.
Is it still considered legal if it is under route comission job pay? Everybody in this job gets paid the same; no person receives a higher or lower wage than another.
There’s no law about that. They can pay whatever they chose to and people in the same state can be paid differently, so long as it’s not discriminatory.
There’s lots of reasons for doing that, such as offering salaries competitive for the area, or giving consideration to the cost of living. California is very expensive.
Edit: It doesn’t matter if it’s commission or salary. It’s whatever the company wants to pay and the employee can negotiate. The only differences are for unions and minimum wage.
Yes, it is legal..in fact, a company can pay different people in the same office different salaries, even if the jobs are technically the same. The only requirement is that everyone must make at least minimum wage.
