Macworld New York 2000-The G4 Cube Introduction

with 25 comments

Here we see Steve Jobs introducing the G4 Cube. Although praised for its innovative industrial design, the Cube fails to catch on with creative professionals because it’s too expensive, not powerful enough and hard to upgrade. The Cube is “put on ice” in July 2001 with Apple promising that it will be “reborn” in another form at a later date. Its widely accepted that the Mac mini computer was its successful replacement.

That statement doesn’t make much sense, they are different architectures. Also, the Xeon Nehalem is CISC like I had said so this is not news to me.

RISC and CISC don’t really have many differences anymore. And the new mac pros actually run the Xeon Nehalem processors.

  15. Never, the mac mini …
Never, the mac mini is a 4th of the size of the Cube and 30 as powerfull. My mac mini has 2 2.6 intel procesors, 4.5GB of ram, DVD burner, 256MB of Video ram and a bunch of other stuff.

The Cube today is a fine machine to surf the internet and that sort of stuff. Is not for video editing at least but for you mom needs would do.

  18. the G4 is obsolete …
the G4 is obsolete – the newest Macs use intel Core2Duo chips which are a different class of chips and are much, much faster. Of course after the G4 was the G5 chip which is similar to what the Xbox 360 uses so the G5 is fast, but Dual Core and Xeons are much faster. Also, the PowerPC chip is RISC based whereas intel chips are CISC based which is really geeky talk but that is why PowerPC where discontinued for Apple computers.
