Advice on TEFL jobs in Japan and Korea please?

I am thinking of doing a TEFL course and trying to find a job in Japan or Korea ( where the best money seems to be). I was just wondering if anyone has any experiance of doing this ( especially from Ireland but anyone’s opinion would be very welcome). Thank in advance for your help..

To teach in either of those countries you’ll also need a degree. As for which TEFL course then almost any will suffice.

The money isn’t great in either of those countries but it will be enough to live on reasonably well and have a decent time (as long as you’re not too extravagant).

Aside from this, once you’re qualified then you can either get work through an agency (which you should NEVER pay a cent to) or following an online advertisement. Many schools are fine but to be sure if you are interested in a particular job advert always do a search online to make sure there aren’t any adverse comments about it on the forums.

Good luck!

TEFL is a very basic course.
You may want to do TESOL also.
Check the employment laws of the country you’re going to, as many Asian countries insist you need a degree to legally teach.

Korea and Japan are in the top 10 countries for the salary and conditions they provide. You can make $25,000-$35,000 a year depending on experience, but the cost of living in Japan is high. Most schools from Korea pay for accommodation, return airfare, and benefits. Ontesol provides free job placement assistance in Korea through EPIK.
