What's the best place in England to live? Due to my job, I’ll be moving to the UK early in ’07. My options are pretty much completely open as to where I can move to. The only restriction being that there needs to be a hospital in the area, as healthcare is my chosen profession. I’ve been doing internet research, picked up a few books, and will be taking a trip in November to check as much out as possible. So I just wanted some advice from locals as to what a good place to settle would be. Here are some of our particulars:
I work in Healthcare and my fiance has a biology degree and does lab work, usually in animal research. We’re both in our mid-20s and as working professionals, together we make good money but I am, as she would say, a "cheapskate". We’re not really for living in a major city but like living near one. We like a more laid back atmosphere, quiet neighborhoods, and access to a nice pub or four.
I know the UK is a big place with lots of destinations but any suggestions would be welcome. Thanks.
Why not try out somewhere on the outskirts of Edinburgh. Edinburgh is not a big city, however it is vibrant and exciting. There is so much to see and do there. Also many jobs in the medical profession.
I am also a lover of the countryside, however I really enjoyed every minute of living in Edinburgh. References :
Macclesfield is quite a nice place to live, it has alot of pubs and club type bars, and also has a hospital pretty much in the centre.
Its quite cheap aswell, and is also very close to country side, ive been moving aroung macc for about 10 years currently in Bollington and wouldn’t want to move anywhere else. References : personnel
i live half time near newcastle. there are several hospitals in the surrounding areas. it’s much cheaper to live here than larger cities. it’s large enough to find a lot of activity and small enough to not feel overwhelmed. i really love it here and would recommend it to any newcomer.
Cornwall and Devon are really nice places to live, good weather, have a look on the out skirts of Exeter. Kent is also nice and quite near London. References :
Worcester is the place for you. Big new hospital, animal research lab nearby. Half hour drive from Birmingham(Englands 2nd city) lots of city pubs and country pubs. Hour away from Wales, and a couple of hours from London. Its a great place to live. References :

Why not Glasgow. It is a very nice town. I was there last summer. They have a vet school.
