How should I respond to job postings on craigslist?
I’m looking for a job on craigslist, and I was wondering the most effective way to reply to a job posting. Thanks ![]()
With a resume or in-person if there is an address listed. Research any sites they send you to as 95% are scams. Don’t give out your social security number.
w/a resume and a cover letter.

Be careful about the info you send via Craigslist. Most jobs there are not real, but information gathering. They collect email addresses and try to get whatever personal information they can.
Start by researching the company to make sure they are legitimate. A professional email saying you are interested in the position and wanted to know what their formal hiring process entails should suffice. They will follow up with you from there if they are real.

I advise being careful as well.
1. I would set up a new email address for replying as many job postings on CL are simply a way of gathering emails for spam.
2. If they reply asking for money, it’s a scam.
3. Respond with a cover letter and resume, but don’t send any personal information (leave off you phone number, address, etc.)
4. If they gave their business name or website in the posting, do a little research about their company and talk about how you can specifically help them rather than being generic in your cover letter.
5. If they respond asking for banking information, asking you to accept payments from their customers, asking you to set up a new bank account, run the other way.
