Job interviews. Each interviewer thinks that they are using new and novel techniques. Really it all goes down to the book they read this week or most likely last year.
Once you realize that there is little originality in interview techniques your ability to succeed in interviews and hence jobs and promotions offered to you will soar .and you will be on the gravy train so to speak.

In actuality it is all about giving the interviewer what is that they want to hear.

Management guru Riteway Strokon notes that the skill of getting through university is to learn to give back to the professor what he told in different words - and importantly words that he understands. So it is with passing interviews. .

There is very little originality in interview techniques and questions no matter how elaborate and intimidating the interviewer and interview seems. If ever get an honest out of way real interview this is the tip off that this is either the company with its style of management or the superior you can work with and for to prosper.

First of all read and reread the ad or posting carefully. What are they looking for?

What skills and traits are desired both by the organization and the ad? Do you have those traits or will you have to groom them. Reread the ad to ascertain the “corporate culture”. How could you fit into that society so to speak? How would you present yourself both in appearance, attitude and answers to better fit the interview mold?

Further along the path of interview preparation, research the company either as if you were buying one of the company’s expensive products or purchasing a large block of stock. The internet affords the easiest and quickest ever means of initial research.

If you use Google as your search engine of choice try using other search engines - such as MSN or Yahoo. You can even try a search engine of search engines - a Meta search engine such as Dogpile or Clusty. Look at the links leading to firm’s WebPages.

Are there links leading from customers for tech support or product information? Who are their major customers? Often the real dirt and info on a company can be obtained from competitors. The best source of information about a Tylenol sales manager would be from their competition - that is someone who sells aspirin for example. Call tech support for the company to check customer service levels as well as the over demeanor and morale of company. If possible such as for retail stores try to talk to some real employees of the firm. What you are looking for is consistency in approach and philosophy all the way down the line and happy satisfied employees and customers. For example the job listing may be all about “targeting and core customer base”. However if you spot that the company is not targeted that their advertising as well as focus is all over the map with no discernable focus and that major customers are unhappy and are ready to jump ship then this is not a good sign for you.

Just as you are playing a game at presentation in the interview process management often has to play a similar game with their supervisors who may be clueless. Look at what was the most major and vital industry to the American economy that was the automobile industry. It used to be said “What is good for General Motors (GM) is good for America. Now the American car industry with its insulated senior management is on its way to hell in a hand basket. Or at least with senior management is still being served executive meals on white linen far away from any employee cafeteria or worker lunchbox. Management may be shown a video or given a course and be clueless about basic concepts in life that your 4 year old nephew knows instinctively

Preparation is the key to successful job interviews. Lastly it is always a good idea not to laugh at the incongruity of the interviewer’s questions and answer questions with a straight face while maintaining eye contact.

Have you been entertaining the thought of getting a second job to augment the family income? If the income that you get from your present job is not enough to keep you and your family comfortable, you might want to consider setting up an internet based home business. The good thing about setting up a home business focusing on the internet is that there are many online businesses that are lucrative and can give you that much needed extra income.

In fact, there are many people who ventured into an online business on a part time basis but eventually quite their day job to focus on their business when the business started bringing in a considerable amount of money. There are some people who have made fortunes through their online businesses, albeit they are the minority. Who knows, you could join their ranks if you spend enough time and effort on your business.

Starting out your home business focusing on the internet is not really that difficult. If you have computer, a fast internet connection, and some working knowledge on computer applications, you could venture into an online business by searching for one that best suits your present resources and skills. You don’t really need to have some elaborate knowledge on software and internet applications to get started. As long as you know the basics about computer applications, you can already get started.

At the beginning, you can work on your online business on a part time basis. Keep your day job for the time being since you will not really earn much during the first few months. You will need to invest some time and a lot of effort into your business. I personally used the excess earnings from my full time job to fund the advertising necessary to get my internet businesses up and running, and profitable. You will also want to reinvest your business profits early on to make sure you establish a strong income base.

Hopefully your spouse will be interested in doing business online, so you may also want to involve them in the business. Setting up a business all by yourself can be a bit lonely and frustrating at times so the presence of your spouse could really help you keep things together.

According to experts, entrepreneurs who are setting up their business alone are more likely to give up easily than those entrepreneurs that have partners to help them set up their businesses. Furthermore, involving your spouse in your online business will allow you to spend more time together. Instead of both of you doing different tasks after your kids have gone to bed, you can work together on your business and support each other.

Now that I have your interests peaked, the next step is for you to start doing your research to find a company to work with. Just be sure to do your due diligence before jumping into something prematurely that you might regret later on. I can recommend some solid, legitimate businesses to consider if you are interested in my input.

In some of my most productive times, the times where ideas have been spewing forth from my head at the most rapid of knots I’ve felt my most exhilarated. But what do you do when every night you’re waking up in the middle of the night, brain racing, ideas ticking over…. thoughts, thought, thoughts? Or worse still when your brain racing so much that you can’t even get to sleep, you just sit there, brain still churning.

While times like this can represent your most productive and creative times, we don’t tend to function well when we’re “always on” like this. Even the most hard working person (and their brain) need some down time where they can turn off and not feel guilty that they’re not still working at top gear. That’s right - I said guilty. If you’re a bit of a workaholic you’ll know that feeling well. Guilt when you’re having that moment of relaxation at home, guilt when you’re on a holiday, guilt when you’re 10 minutes later into the office than you usually are (which is still an hour before most people).

There are ways to avoid that guilt though and that’s by ensuring that you’re at your most productive while the ideas are flowing - so that you can shut off when they don’t need to. Here are my top 5 ways to make sure you can shut off when you need to.

1. Write your What Am I Putting Off List. Each of us has loose ends that aren’t tied up in our lives… the fight with a relative, the criticism you know you must give to an employee, the client you need to call to give bad news to but just can’t, the project you should have started, the exercise plan you were meant to put in place… This list for some just goes on and on and can provide a major source of anguish and “brain racing”. Make a commitment each month to write out a list of all the things you’re putting off at present and steadily work through them.

2. When you make a promise - write it down! My definition of a promise is: any time you tell any one that you’re going to do any thing. You don’t need to have used the word promise, just saying you’re going to do something implies it. Now none of us has a perfect memory - so find your perfect memory helper. Mine’s my mobile phone. While I’m sitting have coffee with someone and I say I’ll chase up a number of a contact, I put a reminder in my phone. When I make a 7.00am walking date with my brother, I put a 6.45am reminder in my phone to make sure that I’m up and ready. It’s that simple and it stops you remembering in the middle of the night that you’d promised (or just said) to do such and such.

3. Plan and prioritize your day. So many of us start off our days by checking emails, going through our in trays, greeting our workmates. Am I saying this is wrong? Not at all! But so many people don’t sit down and work out what is vital for their day. Sit down and ask yourself 10-20 minutes into your day (once all that other stuff you want to do is done) “What do I need to get done today for it to have been productive”. Start identifying the 2-3 big tasks you can work on and hopefully complete (even if they’re jus smaller parts of a bigger task). Completing larger jobs from a to do list gives you a sense of accomplishment in your day. But you won’t know what to work on unless you have planned and prioritized.

4. Set yourself some goals with benefits. Workaholics and brain racers typically work well to deadlines. So set yourself a goal for the month - work wise, but make your reward something that’s a personal relaxing reward you can enjoy without guilt.

5. End your day with pats on the back. Review each day in the last 10 minutes before you head home. Quickly run through all the urgent things that needed doing today. Congratulate yourself for the big tasks you’ve accomplished. Identify the big tasks to achieve this morning. And if you want to see real results in your relationships with others, take 2 minutes to email or call someone else and congratulate them on their result for the day.

Debt collection is the act of obtaining payment from customers for credit-made purchases. It is a thoroughly cumbersome process for most businesses, thus an efficient and effective system of overdue accounts collection must be a major priority - especially by small businesses.

For many small business operators, debt collection is the most unpleasant task of all - keeping tabs on overdue accounts can be very complicated, and pressing people over financial matters is not particularly enjoyable. But more than the large businesses, it is the small ones that must establish appropriate collection systems - else, the company itself is endangered financially.

Simply out of ignorance, small businesses write off great losses because they do not realize that collection agencies can be economical in the long run. Hiring collection agencies - instead of simply relying on the accounts receivable clerk to act as a collector - will not only save time but finances also. Bad debts - money owed that appear impossible to collect - are a collection agencies target.

Small businesses have also this mindset that only large businesses can afford collection agencies. A business must have growth in mind, and taking steps the way your larger competitors do is one of the first steps for that. Plus, most of today’s collection agencies are small business friendly. The mere fact that you have employed the services of a collection agency improves your company bottom line significantly.

Search for a collection agency offering various collection amount levels. One reason why small businesses do not employ collection agencies is because of the notion that the debt owed to the business is trivial to large collection agencies. No debt is too trivial, especially when it is a bad debt.
Make sure that a particular collection agency works within the law.

The debtor must not be unduly harassed with late night or early morning phone calls, or your business will be assaulted with lawsuits. Collection agencies must comply with strict laws, and must be one to use brains more than brawn. Four strategies are mostly used in debt collection - letters, direct contact through telephone, notification to credit reporting bureaus, and litigation.

Collection begins with a series of three notification letters sent to the debtor, most often called demand letters. The third letter is a warning to the debtor - if the outstanding debt remains unpaid on a certain day, the debtor’s name or company will be reported to one or all of the big credit-reporting bureaus.
This warning often prompts immediate action, as unpaid debts on a credit report are a blemish on one’s financial reputation. Reports of unpaid debts may, after all, lead to a denial of credit in the future. When all else has failed, litigation is employed as the last resort.

Small businesses operate on a much tighter budget, and a delinquent account or two can halt the growth of the business. Collection agencies are more needed to ensure the growth of the company. Tracking down debtors is frustrating and tedious - for the collection agencies, it is what they do best.

Tips On How To Become A Successful Freelance Translator

-Once you have graduated, you should first gain a few years practical experience in a translation firm. Often, a senior translator will act as your supervisor and will monitor your progress, by informing you about your strengths and weaknesses, while revising your translations. This will help you to acquire all the necessary skills and abilities that are required for you to become a freelance professional translator.

-If employment opportunities are not available, you can also apply for the post of an unpaid, “volunteer” trainee. Many translation agencies do not have the financial resources to hire new staff, but they are equipped to provide you with excellent training.

-After honing your skills in an established translation agency for a couple of years, you will be capable of identifying potential clients. You could sign a part-time contract, which will provide you with more time to identify clients and more importantly, enough money to survive on.

-Once you have been able to get sufficient freelance work to keep you busy through the week, you can also consider ending your employment contract and dedicating all of your extra time and effort to attracting new clients. Any experienced freelance translator can earn as much as or even more than most salaried, full-time translators.

Where To Look For Jobs?

-Translation Agencies: In general, most translation agencies are not too keen on hiring the services of new and inexperienced freelance translators. It takes a while for a freelancer to prove themselves. They need to prove that they can meet deadlines, provide a consistent level of good quality work and consult appropriate resources to deal efficiently with any required specialization. To reduce the risk of loss and to avoid related costs, most translation agencies only hire freelancers who have been exposed to a minimum of 2-3 years of experience in the business.

-Business Clients: In an attempt to directly identify the companies, freelance translators have found it increasingly difficult to find clients and get work. Most companies prefer to outsource translation services to their business partners. Companies look for translation agencies that can meet their requirements in a number of languages. Agencies are easily available and are capable of completing tasks and meeting deadlines.

The translation field is very competitive. However, if you are willing to take some time building your clientele, proving yourself and improving your language translation skills, you can build a successful career as a freelance translator.
